Representatives of the International Gas Union and the world’s largest natural gas companies are in Buenos Aires this week for the 24th Annual World Gas Conference (WGC), the most important event in the gas industry. This year’s event marks the first time the WGC has been held in the Southern Hemisphere and in a developing country like Argentina. The theme this year, “The Global Energy Challenge: Reviewing the Strategies of Natural Gas,” reflects the emerging role natural gas is playing in the global energy mix. The 2009 WGC represents the culmination of a three-year Triennium during which regional and corporate members focused on the gas industry’s current challenges and developed a long-term Outlook to 2030. The industry’s challenges, including a 50% decline in prices compared to a year ago, are highlighted in today’s Wall Street Journal.
