The world’s oldest polo tournament is celebrating its 117th edition, and the stage is set for an incredible final tomorrow at the Hurlingham Open. The second jewel in the Triple Crown will feature the Pieres brothers of Ellerstina taking on Adolfo Cambiaso and La Dolfina. And if last weekend’s semifinal matches were any indication, tomorrow’s final should be a polo supercla¡sico.

Hot off their victory at Tortugas, the first jewel of the Triple Crown, Ellerstina Etiqueta Negra defeated Chapa Uno 20-16 to win Group A, but they played poorly and Facundo Pieres even described the effort as “bad, absent-minded” polo.  The same could be said of La Dolfina in the Group B semifinal when they fell behind 11-5 through six chukkers on the strength of La Aguada BMW’s inspired play and Javier Novillo Astrada’s six goals. But then La Dolfina went on a tear through the final two and notched the equalizer with only seconds to go in the final chukker. Only 35 seconds into the extra chukker, Caset fed Cambiaso who scored the final goal which lifted La Dolfina to a 13-12 victory. (ESPN Video)

Update: Ellerstina won the final match 19-13 and emerged with the second jewel of the Triple Corona. Next stop Palermo for the Abierto which gets underway November 21.
