Louis Vuitton Punta del Este Uruguay

One week after closing the Buenos Aires store, Louis Vuitton closes Paris Fashion Week.

Last night, Louis Vuitton closed Paris Fashion Week with a collection that drew glowing reviews from the global fashion press. Closer to home, the iconic brand is sauntering down a one-way catwalk from the streets of Recoleta to the beaches of Uruguay.

One week after closing the Buenos Aires store at Alvear and Ayacucho, Louis Vuitton is making the move to Punta del Este. Paris-based LVMH wasted little time in choosing the new Southern Cone location: a two-story boutique on 29th Street in the heart of the Punta peninsula. The store is scheduled to open in early December in time for the peak summer season.

LVMH is reportedly investing US$500,000 in the Punta store which will have a Mediterranean feel similar to the company’s Mykonos store. El Observador’s Mayte de Leon says Brazilian tourists were already descending on the boutique last weekend trying to find out when the doors would officially open.

The Buenos Aires Louis Vuitton store closed after seventeen years along with other luxury goods retailers like Ralph Lauren who found it increasingly difficult to turn a profit in Argentina. Punta del Este is a strategic location from which LVMH can cater to vacationing Argentines, Brazilians and cruise ship passengers of various nationalities. (Full Story in Spanish)
