Montevideo may have lost its only roller coaster to Mexico last year, but a brand new, state-of-the-art coaster will soon rise as the centerpiece of a new amusement park on the east side of the Uruguay capital.
The new Montevideo amusement park is being built on a 5 hectare (12.3 acre) parcel in the Parque Roosevelt, a beautiful public park where 700,000 eucalyptus and pine trees were planted in 1916.
Blu Park is the name of the company that submitted a bid yesterday for the long-term management contract with the Department of Canelones where the park is located, according the article in El Pais which shows several rides already under construction.
The investor group behind the new amusement park includes Uruguay investors (60%) as well as Brazilian and Venezuelan investors (40%). The first phase of the park is scheduled to open this year followed by construction of the second phase with the roller coaster and a giant ferris wheel. (Full Story in Spanish)
