Buenos Aires Campanas Verdes

Feed the Bell: First Palermo, now Recoleta and 4 more BA neighborhoods in the coming months.

After a successful pilot program in Palermo last year, the City of Buenos Aires is expanding its long-awaited recycling program to five additional neighborhoods beginning with Recoleta.

Work crews have already begun distributing 400 new campanas verdes (green bells) to designated areas on the streets and corners of Recoleta. Each container is 1.6 meters (5.2 feet) high with wide slots and signage encouraging neighbors to feed the bells with cans, bottles, bags and any other clean, dry recyclable materials. Bins will be locked to discourage dumpster diving.

Once Recoleta’s green monsters are all placed this month, the City will begin distributing 1,000 new recycling bins in Belgrano, Nunez, Colegiales and Caballito. The ultimate goal is to have 15,000 campanas verdes throughout Capital Federal by the end of 2014.  (Full Story in Spanish)
