It was announced three years ago and ready to open with retail stores fully stocked and decorated several months ago, but political opposition and legal obstacles put the grand opening on hold.

Now Distrito Arcos, Buenos Aires’ first outdoor premium outlet mall, is finally open to the public following the grand opening ceremony on Thursday. An appeals court ruled in favor of IRSA, the project developer that launched the US$60 million retail project in 2011.

The development has revitalized an abandoned area in the shadow of the San Martin railway which runs along Juan B. Justo Avenue, the dividing line between two of the city’s most popular neighborhoods for expats and foreign travelers: Palermo Soho and Palermo Hollywood.

The first phase of Distrito Arcos includes 53 retail outlets including Adidas, Billabong, Cheeky, Como Quieras Que Te Quiera, Grimoldi, Grisino, La Dolfina, Puma, Rapsodia, Samsonite, Sarkany, Tascani, Tucci and Wanama, as well as five dining options including Freddo, Havanna, Le Pain Quotidien, Starbucks and Winery. The second phase will expand the total number of shops and restaurants to 65.

According to Clarin, Distrito Arcos has three access points: the main entrance on Paraguay between Juan B. Justo and Godoy Cruz, the Palermo Hollywood entrance across the street from Palermo Tower, and the Palermo Soho entrance at Godoy Cruz and Chacras for both pedestrians and vehicles accessing the galleria’s 453-space underground garage.
