Bodega del Fin del Mundo Enters Luxury Residential Arena

Luxury residential developments offering private vineyard ownership and private label winemaking are nothing new in Argentina, but it is interesting when well established vineyards make their initial foray into the private ownership arena.

Such is the case with Clos del Fin del Mundo, a new luxury residential offering from award-winning Bodegas del Fin del Mundo. Unveiled earlier this week, the 120-hectare (300-acre) development in the winery’s Patagonia backyard is being subdivided into 36 parcels with 3 hectares each.

80% of each Clos parcel will be planted with Malbec and state-of-the-art irrigation while each owner will have the option of building their own Casa del Fin del Mundo on the remaining plot, according to La Nacion’s Carlos Manzoni. The project is envisioned as a turnkey development, and the average lot price is US$350,000 or around US$120,000 per hectare.

Another high-profile vineyard prying open its terroirs to private investors is Fournier, recently named one of eight 5-star wineries in Argentina by Robert Parker. The Fournier development is located in the shadow of the winery in Mendoza’s Uco Valley. Lots are priced at US$150,000 per hectare, and interested investors can purchase up to three hectares for US$450,000. (Full Story in Spanish)
