Rush hour traffic, protests and lane closures, Microcentro bottlenecks, lurking trapitos, full parking lots…the streets of Buenos Aires runneth over with daily obstacles and unexpected surprises for daily commuters trying to get into, out of or across Capital Federal.
Mexico City may have the worst traffic on the planet, but Buenos Aires ranks number two in Latin America behind DF.
A smartphone app to the rescue! As part of the City’s Plan for Sustainable Mobility, the City of Buenos Aires is rolling out BA Movil, a powerful new app that gives real-time data regarding street closures, bottlenecks, Subte schedules, and even pricing and availability of downtown parking spaces, according to Clarin’s Nora Sanchez.
The City invested $50,000 developing the new app which also integrates other aspects of BA’s Sustainable Mobility network including BicingBA. The app gives real-time information regarding the number of bicycles available in the city’s 22 free rental stations. The 2.0 version of the app will integrate the schedule and frequency of Buenos Aires Metrobus arrivals and departures.
