Patrick Archer argentina polo, buenos aires events, lifestyle

Tortugas, the first jewel of the Triple Crown of polo will be contested today at 15:30, not as in years past at the Tortugas Country Club but rather on Field 2 in Palermo, the same site as the Abierto qualifiers and the 90th anniversary party of the Asociacion Argentina de Polo two weeks ago.

Today’s match will feature Ellerstina Citi vs. La Dolfina Hope Funds, a matchup that is emerging as the superclasico of Argentina polo. Ellerstina advanced in Tortugas’ A bracket with a 17-13 victory over La Natividad and a 15-13 win over Pilara. La Dolfina conquered the B bracket with a 18-14 triumph over Alegria and an unexpected 16-9 pounding of La Aguada.

Delayed and rescheduled because of the recent storms, the Tortugas final will be contested today at Palermo’s La Catedral for the first time since 1983. Friday will be a day of rest for both teams, but the second jewel of the Triple Corona begins on Saturday.

Hurlingham, the world’s oldest polo tournament, features Saturday quarterfinals with Pilara vs. Alegria and La Augada vs. La Natividad. Sunday’s program will feature La Dolfina vs. Magual in the early match and Ellerstina vs. La Aguada – Las Monjitas in the closer. Venga a disfrutar el mejor polo del mundo, al mejor lugar.
