Best Airport in the World

MVD Pride: Carrasco won both the Jury and Popular votes in Architizer’s 2013 A+ Design Awards

InvestBA has long touted Montevideo’s Carrasco International as the best airport in Latin America. It turns out we were wrong. It’s the best in the world.

Carrasco International was named Best Airport in the World by Architizer, the world’s largest database of architecture online, and votes cast in Architizer’s 2013 A+ Awards. Montevideo’s world-class airport actually won both the 2013 Jury Award, as well as the online popular vote which concluded last evening.

Over 150,000 voters chose the winners across 52 different residential, commercial, office, cultural, landscape and transportation categories. In the Airport category, Carrasco International edged out other world-class designs including Turkey’s Bodrum International and San Francisco’s Terminal 2.

First-time visitors to MVD are typically blown away by the quality of the airport and the whole arrival experience from the speed of customs and baggage claim to the state-of-the-art Duty Free shops to the long lines of gleaming Mercedes-Benz taxis waiting curbside. If you can’t experience the world’s best airport in person, our friends at Uruguay 360 offer the next best thing. (Full Story in Spanish)
