It’s been a wonderful year of triumphs and international accolades for tiny Uruguay. From the most transparent to the least corrupt to the cultural capital and best quality of life in Latin America, it would be hard to top the superlatives bestowed upon the ROU in 2013.
Now the editorial board of The Economist is naming Uruguay its “Country of the Year.” Uruguay received the nod for its embrace of socially progressive policies which made world headlines this year, as well as for its humble head of state who other presidents in the region should (but won’t) try to emulate.
So Congratulations, Uruguay for realizing that la vida es un juego de pulgadas and rising to the occasion in 2013.
