Hilton Worldwide is coming to Montevideo. The Virginia-based company made the announcement yesterday and plans to open the new 17-story, 168-room hotel in 2014. The US$30 million Montevideo property will introduce the popular Hilton Garden Inn brand to South America.
Hilton’s announcement offers additional validation of Montevideo as an important hub for business and tourism in the Southern Cone. “As part of our expansion throughout Latin America, we have always recognized the importance of establishing a presence in this key Latin American city,” said Danny Hughes, SVP Caribbean, Mexico and Latin America for Hilton Worldwide.
The company’s announcement emphasized the Uruguayan capital’s economic and geographic appeal: “Having experienced a period of economic growth and development, Montevideo is the country’s economic and financial center and home to some of the most important business headquarters in the country. Montevideo is served by international flights including a less than one hour flight from Buenos Aires, Argentina.”
The Hilton Garden Inn Montevideo will be built in the Pocitos neighborhood next to the Montevideo Shopping Center and right next door to the World Trade Center, so it should appeal to both tourists and business travelers alike. (Full Story in Spanish)
