In a new chapter of Uruguayan ingenuity to circumvent Argentine regulations, property owners in and around Punta del Este are beginning to accept Argentine properties as payment for lots, homes and condominiums.
“In Punta, Owners Are Now Accepting Argentina Properties As Payment For Real Estate,” is the headline of Marcelo Gallardo’s analysis of one Uruguay property broker’s creative marketing campaign today in El Pais.
Gallardo says the broker sent a blast email to Argentine clients of prime properties in coastal Uruguay with the teaser,“Pay with Properties in Buenos Aires.” Some of the properties included a 3-bedroom condominium on Playa Brava for US$660,000 and a large residential lot in the Laguna de los Cisnes gated community for US$165,000.
The response? “We have received responses from our clients with very interesting offers. In other cases not so interesting, because their properties are not well located. They are offering us their properties in Buenos Aires in an attempt to acquire something here in our country,” says the broker. Gallardo adds the interested parties from the other side of the River Plate want to come and live in Uruguay.
